Charm School

Puppy Politeness

Good manners are the foundation of good behavior, so start building your pup’s social skills now with our puppy training class. With our open enrollment policy, you can start whenever you want – no waiting weeks for the next class session to begin. A fun, upbeat way to jump-start your pup’s early education!

Class Covers:
Clicker training in basic cues such as sit, down, stay, come, and drop it.
Everyday real-world skills like polite greetings, leash walking, and house training.
How to prevent biting, jumping, destructive chewing, separation anxiety, and other common puppy problems.

Doggie Decorum

Perhaps your pup just graduated from our Puppy Politeness class, and you want to continue his schooling with “grown-up” dog training class. Or maybe he’s no longer a puppy, but he hasn’t had much (or any) training. Our Doggie Decorum class is a place where you and your best friend can enjoy learning together.

Strengthening basic cues such as sit, down, stay, come, and drop it with clicker training.
Improving everyday real-world skills like polite greetings and leash walking.
Maintaining focus and attention even while distracted.

Gracious Greetings

Applied Obedience

Hounds Downtown

Taking your dog with you to all the places you love sure is fun – as long as he behaves himself and listens to what you say. Whether you’re walking in the park or sitting on the sidelines at your kids’ sports games, our Hounds Downtown dog training class will teach your dog the right way to behave just about anywhere.

Hounds Downtown II – The Sequel

Enhance the pragmatic public behavior skills your dog learned in Hounds Downtown with this next-level dog training class. We’ll help your dog enjoy more off-leash freedom – so you can really relax in outdoor settings knowing he’ll listen to you when it counts. Just like in part one, our Sequel sessions take place “on location” in different Lowcountry locales.

Class Covers:
Enhanced safety strategies for socially appropriate meet-and-greets, dealing with distractions, and reliable recalls.
More advanced off-leash directional work and call-backs from increasing distances.
Rally-style heelwork and urban Agility-style exercises using benches and playground equipment.

Canine Good Citizens

The American Kennel Club’s® Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program sets the standard for good manners. Designed to officially recognize dogs for exemplary behavior at home and in the community, CGC is also great preparation for a variety of other activities – from canine competition to therapy dog training.

Class Covers:
A wide variety of behavioral skills, from good leash manners and recall to meeting unfamiliar people and animals, in preparation for the CGC test.
Administration of the 10-step CGC test by the instructor – a certified AKC CGC Evaluator®.
CGC certificates and titles (e.g., Fido Jones, CGC) awarded to dogs who pass the test.

Diagnosis: Dog

Just like people, some dogs struggle with behavioral “issues” that limit where they can go, what they can do, and how happy they can be. This class, inspired by Leslie McDevitt’s book Control Unleashed®, is specially designed to help dogs overcome “issues” – from lack of focus and leash reactivity to shyness, hyper-excitability, and more – so they can live life to the fullest.

Class Covers:
Helping your dog remain calm and settled in stressful environments.
Social skills for meeting and getting along with other dogs and people.
Any specific skills class members need to learn – whether it’s impulse control, anxiety reduction, maintaining focus, or something else.

Tricks for Treats

Tricks provide a fun way to impress and entertain people at parties and holiday gatherings by demonstrating how amazingly smart and talented your dog is. Better yet, teaching your dog tricks is one of the best ways to improve his training skills. And in this class, you’ll both have a total blast while you learn!

Timeless classics like shake, wave, say hello, roll over, bow, and more.
Body tricks such as drumming, skateboarding, handstands, pick up toys, and more.

Rally Fundamentals

The sport of Rally challenges you and your dog to navigate an obedience obstacle course as a team, facing new behavioral tests at each station along the way. Playing Rally strengthens your dog’s practical, real-world obedience skills and your handling abilities. But the emphasis in our Rally Fundamentals class is on having fun!

Class Covers:
Rally basics, including how the courses work and an introduction to competitive Rally for those interested in pursuing titles.
Focusing your dog’s attention and communicating instructions effectively to improve your rapport and timing.
Transferring Rally skills to everyday situations that require reliable, rapid responses, both at home and in public.

Follow Your Nose

Canines’ snouts are 10,000 to 100,000 times more powerful than humans’ noses. So it’s no wonder they love nose work – the play-anywhere game that fully engages your dog’s sense of smell and excitement. And any dog will enjoy our Follow Your Nose class, from puppies to seniors. It’s also a great activity for shy, hyperactive, and leash-reactive dogs!

Beginning nose work with food hidden around the room in boxes.
More challenging nose games with car searches and odors strategically concealed in various environments.
A basic introduction to the sport of nose work for those interested in competition.
